Special Division for Acting in Cases of Criminal Offences with Elements of Organised Crime

A Special division for processing criminal cases with an element of organised crime (hereafter: the Special division) is established within the Criminal division in accordance with the Law on Organisation and Jurisdiction of Government Authorities in Suppression of Organised Crime which regulates establishing, organization, jurisdiction and powers of special government bodies for detecting and prosecuting perpetrators of criminal offences stipulated in this Law.

According to this Law the District Court in Belgrade has first-instance jurisdiction in criminal cases with the element of organized crime, while the Appellate Court in Belgrade, whose establishment is planned by the 1 January 2007, should have second instance jurisdiction. Until the establishment of this Court the second-instance court in these cases is the Supreme Court of Serbia, which has the function of the Appellate Court.

The President of the Court appoints judges to this Special division for a term of two years with their consent, by the Annual timetable of judges’ tasks.
